Clinical Data Extractions: LIMITED Data Sets
Limited Data Sets (LDS) are a special category of identified date per HIPAA Legislation. LDS use the 'Safe Harbor' de-identification methodology (18 identifiers removed) except with LDS, exact dates and zip codes can be included. Any publication cannot include references to dates less than year or zip code level identifiers. An LDS falls under the Privacy Rule but can be used by obtaining a Data Use Agreement from the CHI, which serves as the College of Medicine’s Honest Broker for clinical data use in research.
