N3C National COVID Repository

N3C is designed to be ‘big data’ platform where advanced analytics and data science tools such as Artificial Intelligence and predictive models can be created. The N3C Enclave has an immense amount of data in an OMOP Common Data model that allows integration with other standard data sets. BMI has an analyst trained in the N3C data model and can provide assistance with navigating this complex architecture.

Dated is uploaded by partner institutions weekly. More than 3.7 million COVID-19-positive patients and more than 12 billion rows of data are included in this enclave. BMI has been supplying data to N3C for UC Health since March 2021.

The public-facing N3C Cohort Exploration Dashboard provides high-level information about the N3C cohort and N3C Data Enclave. More than 300 projects are underway using the enclave data to examine associations between COVID-19 patient outcomes and social determinants of health. You can join an existing project or create your own. There have been over 50 publications to date.

There is a process to be onboarded to the Enclave. BMI does not have to be included in projects but for new users, it is highly recommended due to the complexity of the governance and data model.
